A puppy or a kitten will make a great addition to your family. There is a lot of responsibility associated with adopting a pet that is so young. They will need to be professionally trained and they will need a lot of love and affection so that the two of you can bond.

One of the first things that you should do when you bring your puppy or kitten home is to schedule an appointment with the Animal Hospital of Sullivan County. There are several reasons why this first appointment is so important.

During your puppy or kitten's first visit, the veterinarian will perform a complete exam. They will examine your pet's eyes, ears, nose, and mouth. They will listen to your pet's heart and lungs and examine their skin and fur.

The vet will also have your pet walk so they can observe your pet's gait. If your pet was born with an underlying medical condition, it can be detected during this exam.

Your puppy or kitten will need to have vaccinations if they are going to live a long and healthy life. Most of the vaccines are given during the first year. During your pet's first visit to the animal hospital, the vet will show you your pet's vaccination schedule. Your puppy or kitten will also get their round of vaccinations during this visit.

During your pet's first visit to the vet, you can have them microchipped. The microchip is inserted between your pet's shoulder blade using a syringe. This is no more painful than when your pet gets a vaccine.

The microchip will contain a number that can be scanned by a veterinarian or at an animal shelter. The number will be entered into the lost pet database, which will contain your pet's name, your name and contact information, and any health conditions your pet has.

If your pet gets lost, the microchip will help you be reunited quickly. It will also give you peace of mind when your pet goes outside.

When you first bring your puppy or kitten home, they might be too young to be spayed or neutered, but it is never too early to get the necessary information. During your pet's first visit, you can ask the vet any questions that you have regarding the procedures and their benefits. They will also discuss the best time for your pet to be fixed.

When bringing a new pet home, it is not uncommon to have questions. You may want to speak to the vet about your pet's behavior, health, or diet, and the first visit is a great time to bring them up.

When you first bring your puppy or kitten home, schedule an appointment with the Animal Hospital of Sullivan County. Our veterinarian in Ferndale will make sure that your new pet is happy and healthy. We treat pets in Monticello, Liberty, Ferndale, and all over Sullivan County.

In the background, there are two framed certificates on a cream-colored wall, one from The Ohio State University and another for the Animal Hospital of Sullivan County. The lighting is bright and warm, creating a friendly and professional atmosphere suitable for a veterinary clinic's website.

Sometimes the best answers come from a quick, friendly conversation.
